Sweet Tomatoes is a chain of all-you-can eat buffet-style restaurants featuring healthy foods like fresh salads, soups, and bakery items like breads, muffins, and pizza. I first learned about the goodness that is Sweet Tomatoes when my grandparents took me to the location in Venice, Florida nearly 20 years ago. I could instantly see why it was popular with the Senior set looking for healthy food fast, but it's just as good for families with kids and health-conscious adults of any age. My teenage boys were raised on it. We've visited multiple Sweet Tomatoes locations in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina regularly.

The name Sweet Tomatoes, well, it's awesome. It's quick, clean, easy to spell, and memorable. It instantly makes you think of crisp, fresh-from-the-garden tomatoes, and that's even if you don't eat raw tomatoes. Americans eat tomatoes in ketchup, salsa, sauces, soups, cocktails, and lots more. And for the most part, we want our tomatoes to be sweet. Even the word sweet itself has positive connotations of happiness and satisfaction, such as in the well-known phrase "a sweet life." This brand name works on many levels. We love it.

Sweet Tomatoes is owned by Garden Fresh Restaurant Corporation. It was originally called Souplantation when it opened in 1978, and still operates under that name in Southern California.
